While it’s often said that some manufacturers aim big, Sonoro’s approach with the ATRON is, on the contrary, to reduce the size of its new connected all-in-one system—even though it was designed with the same commitment to quality as the larger AVATON and MEISTERSTÜCK 3 models.
The grille design leaves no doubt as to this new device’s origins, as it echoes that of the German manufacturer’s other models. But this time, the cabinet is covered in a fine fabric. The rectangular chassis is designed to be extremely compact, measuring 14.8 cm wide, 12 cm deep, and 20.4 cm tall, with rounded corners that lend it a smooth, elegant shape. Weighing just 1.5 kilograms, this new ATRON can be placed almost anywhere… provided it’s plugged into an outlet via its power cable, as it doesn’t have a battery.
It can tune into FM and DAB+ radio stations, while DLNA and UPnP protocols also let you listen to just about any streaming platform. However, the device isn’t Roon Ready, though it’s already AirPlay and will soon be compatible with Auracast. Also nice, the Bluetooth module is bidirectional, which means it can not only receive music you send to it, but also that you can transfer a streamed file to another device or a pair of headphones.
Despite its compact size, the ATRON features no fewer than five speakers. On the front panel, two 1.5-inch (38 mm) speakers handle the midrange and treble frequencies. These are completed in the bass range by two 3-inch (7.6 cm) woofers on the sides and a 4-inch (10 cm) passive radiator. Thanks to its DSP and a placement equalizer, combined with the Acoustic Lens concept for speaker positioning, this small Sonoro analyzes the signal in real time to enhance its response.
Although not visible in the first photos we have, the 4-inch TFT screen on the front is high-resolution and color. It displays most of the information about the selected radio stations or albums, which can be controlled via the app, the buttons and dial on top, or simply using the included remote control. Its multiroom functionality allows it to be paired with other Sonoro speakers and support up to 32 devices simultaneously.
The retail price is €399, regardless of whether it comes in beige, gray, or black.
