{"id":5398,"date":"2026-07-11T15:18:17","date_gmt":"2026-07-11T13:18:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vumetre.com\/en\/?p=5398"},"modified":"2026-07-24T14:48:51","modified_gmt":"2026-07-24T12:48:51","slug":"focals-scala-utopia-iii-evo-becomes-the-evo-m","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vumetre.com\/en\/news\/focals-scala-utopia-iii-evo-becomes-the-evo-m\/","title":{"rendered":"Focal\u2019s Scala Utopia III Evo Becomes the Evo M"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The change isn\u2019t major, but it reassures us that, following continuous development of the new Diva Utopia connected line\u2014recently expanded to include a third model, the Alta\u2014the French manufacturer is still committed to its passive models.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On paper, almost nothing has changed for this new Scala Utopia Evo M, the entry-level model and\u2014for now\u2014the only one in the Utopia lineup to be updated, although we expect the three higher-end speakers to follow suit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The weight therefore remains at 85 kilograms per unit, with dimensions of 124.7 by 39.3 by 67 cm. And this bass-reflex floorstanding speaker retains the 27 cm (10.6\u201d) woofer with the proprietary \u201cW\u201d cone, though here it features a dual 16 cm (6.3\u201d) ferrite magnet. But upon closer inspection, we see that not only is the fiberglass \u201cW\u201d midrange reinforced with a 13-cm (5.1\u2019\u2019) \u201cM\u201d profile, but also\u2014and perhaps most significantly\u2014the tweeter no longer features the beryllium that Focal has cherished since 2000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Thanks to its new PRISM (Photon Refined Intelligent Structured Membrane) construction, this multilayered, microstructured diaphragm is said to be both even stiffer and lighter. The rationale behind its design likely also stems from the fact that, in some countries, beryllium was considered a hazardous material\u2014even though its use in hi-fi diaphragms protected by a grille posed no such risk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery has-nested-images columns-default is-cropped wp-block-gallery-1 is-layout-flex wp-block-gallery-is-layout-flex\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"352\" height=\"352\" data-id=\"5400\" src=\"https:\/\/vumetre.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/technologie-membrane-profil-m.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5400\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"600\" data-id=\"5401\" src=\"https:\/\/vumetre.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/membrane-w.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5401\" srcset=\"https:\/\/vumetre.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/membrane-w.jpg 600w, https:\/\/vumetre.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/membrane-w-480x480.jpg 480w\" sizes=\"(min-width: 0px) and (max-width: 480px) 480px, (min-width: 481px) 600px, 100vw\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"352\" height=\"352\" data-id=\"5402\" src=\"https:\/\/vumetre.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/visuel-prism-fiche-techno.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5402\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Despite its two new diaphragms, the Scala Utopia III Evo M retains both its already very wide frequency response (27 Hz \u2013 40 kHz) and its sensitivity of 92 dB. However, its nominal impedance has been reduced from 8 to 6 \u03a9. The color options have changed slightly, from six to five, as chocolate brown, white, and gray have been replaced by \u201cOff White\u201d and \u201cWarm Taupe\u201d finishes.
